Community Description:Think Galactic is a radical left science fiction and fantasy reading group in Chicago
Think Galactic is a pro-woman, pro-queer, and anti-racism group that dreams of a world without oppressive hierarchies.

Think Galactic is a reading and discussion group that rose out of three anarchists from Chicago’s experiences with Wiscon, the world’s leading feminist science fiction convention. They sought to find a way to bring intense, thoughtful, and earnest discussion of speculative fiction and politics into their regular lives. Starting with an initial discussion of Samuel Delaney’s “Aye and Gomorrah”, they recruited like-minded friends and a reading list of interesting titles was compiled. Flyering and other networks added a variety of other individuals to the mix and the group has been going since then.

Every month the group gathers at Myopic Books in Chicago, with a typical turnout being 4-6 people. We are now in our fifth year of discussions.

Accessibility notes: Think Galacticon and other larger events are held at ADA-compliant facilities. However, the monthly book group meets upstairs at Myopic Books, which does not have an elevator. Please contact Myopic for further details about the store at (773) 862-4882. The bookstore is readily accessible via CTA trains and buses. An additional note for those with allergies: Myopic does have several cats in residence.
